Page Parkes Staff Spotlight: Corporate Director Tabitha Pagel Garcia

Page Parkes Management Corporate Director Tabitha Pagel Garcia's story of success isn't all that different than many of the hundreds of models and actors who had their humble beginnings being scouted directly by Page Parkes or blossoming in one of our modeling and talent camps before making it to the big leagues. While bold-faced names like Alexis Bledel, Channing Tatum, Hillary Duff and more have reached Hollywood success after starting at out at Page Parkes, Tabitha decided to take her experience modeling with the agency and turning into a career being an agent...and eventually corporate director of Page Parkes Management in Houston. She meets with hundreds of prospective models and actors each year and signs, molds, manages and places them with agencies worldwide and gets them local, national and international jobs.

We caught up with her briefly in between meeting new prospective models and fielding phone calls from national clients to chat about what she looks for in prospective talent and how to handle the biz...

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT PAGE PARKES:
I have worked at Page 713 for 17 years. I started at the company as the receptionist, then the new faces agent, then agency director and now I am the corporate director of the companies in Houston.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I went to Page Parkes Center of Modeling and Acting at the age of 13. My mom drove me an hour and a half to and from classes every Saturday for 8 weeks and it changed my life. I was then accepted into the agency and started modeling soon after for major catalog clients. I traveled around the US until I was almost 18, and then started to work at the agency.

PLEASE GIVE US A GREAT PAGE PARKES ANECDOTE!
Page took me to Paris to see the runway shows when I was the agency director and we had a blast! Funny thing is that we over booked our days with agency appointments and left little time to see the actual city. She literally kept a cab waiting while we snapped pictures of the Eiffel Tower (I had never seen it before!) and we sprinted through The L’ouvre in our heels to see the Mona Lisa. It was a complete blast and I will always be thankful to her for introducing me to a wonderful city and to her friends.

TABITHA & PAGE

HOW DID U TRANSITION FROM MODEL TO AGENCY DIRECTOR?
I was modeling in Miami when I realized that I was tired of living out of a suitcase. I had always had an interest in what the agents did so I flew home and asked to meet with Page. I went in and told her that I wanted her job and the next week I was working at the agency front desk. I worked with the agents, Page and taught classes at PPCMA so I could learn every aspect of being an agent. I was soon promoted and it snowballed from there. I think I was always meant to have this job and help other models. It is one of the things I love most about my job.

WHO DO YOU HAVE YOUR RADAR ON?
All of the girls from E!'s Scouted are HOT right now! Kelsie, Marissa, Erin and Gillian…… Jacob Riley is doing amazing in NY and he walked Versace. We always love the new faces from model camp! Our kids division is rocking right now too!

FAVORITE AGENCY MOMENT?
Anytime we book with a client that we have worked really hard to establish a relationship with. Jacob on Versace, Evan in Prada, the Stokes boys working with Bruce Weber. One of the most rewarding parts of our job is when our models obtain a level of success and then how thankful they are to us!

WHAT CATCHES YOUR EYE WHEN SCOUTING OR MEETING NEW POTENTIAL TALENT AND MODELS?
I always look for personality and someone who has manners. There are tons of pretty and cute people out there but what sets you apart from others is what you have inside your heart.

A BLAST FROM TABITHA'S PAST...HER FORMER COMP CARD

GIVE US A SUCCESS STORY OF SOMEONE U MANAGED?
I helped Page manage Alexis Bledel. I use to take her to walk around Memorial Park to get her hips down so an agency in Japan would sign her. We placed her all over the world.

HOW DO YOU RESPOND TO CRITICISMS OF THE INDUSTRY THAT IT IS SHALLOW AND CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES SUCH AS SKINNY MODELS?
I think modeling is far from shallow. I think this industry can actually help a girl who is taller than most of her friends and probably feels like she “doesn’t fit in”. Modeling teaches you how to take care of yourself, makes you feel like you belong to a family of people just like you and can show you the world that most people would never get the option to see.

HOW DOES PAGE PARKES MANAGEMENT WORK TO NEGATE ALL THOSE IMAGES?
We promote education and to be the best they can be. We have many classes that teach aspiring models what the industry is about and how to be a model. We also have a hand on approach with their career and set goals for them to reach.

HOW DOES PAGE PREPARE KIDS TO BECOME STARS AND SUCCESSES IN LIFE?
By establishing a strong moral ethical base to operate the industry and to encourage parents to help their children on their paths.

Caitlin Ricketts - INTERVIEW!

If you have been following our blog, no doubt you have noticed that one of our most posted girls is CAITLIN RICKETTS. If you also happen to be flipping through the latest issue of Nylon you might catch one of our top Texas girls gracing some of the pages. Ever since she signed with Wilhelmina in New York, our doe-eyed brunette has logged runway miles for top shows like Betsey Johnson during NY Fashion Week and booked varied clients from Nylon to Ann Taylor LOFT.

We caught up with her really quick...

HOW WAS FASHION WEEK? FAVORITE MOMENTS? WORST MOMENTS?
Fashion week was the craziest/best experience of my life yet. I was thrown into the show package last minute and did not expect to book anything. My favorite moment was definitely walking for Betsey Johnson. I was so thrilled when I found out, I think I was late to a casting because I had to call and tell my family because I was that excited. The worst moment was getting lost and missing castings, I never want to miss a casting but sometimes you have so much packed in one day its a miracle if you make it to everything on time.

WHAT'S NEXT ON YOUR MODELING PLATE?
Next on my plate for modeling is fashion week in Australia. I am leaving in one week, Im super excited and anxious to model out of the country for the first time. I will be staying for 8 weeks then after that I’ll probably be back to New York:).

HOW IS MODELING IN TEXAS DIFFERENT THAN MODELING IN NY? WHERE ELSE HAVE YOU TRAVELED?

Working in New York is different then working in Texas because you have to be available at all times, there is never a slow day. New York is seriously the city that never sleeps. Texas is more laid back and a great place to prepare you for working in a big city like New York. I have traveled to a lot of fun places recently since working in New York. My favorite place I got to travel to for a job was Puerto Rico. It was beautiful in Puerto Rico, I have never seen anything like it.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ASPIRING MODELS?
My best advice to give aspiring models is to make sure you love it because it is a lot of hard work but also so fun. Also most importantly have confidence in yourself because its a big industry and not everyone is going to like you and you can't take anything that is said negatively to you to heart. If you don’t like what someone has to say about you then just brush it off your shoulder.

HOW DID PAGE PARKES PREPARE YOU FOR SUCCESS?
Page Parkes has done so much to prepare me. Page has taught me everything from what to wear to a casting to how to walk on a runway. I got a lot of experience working in Houston and Dallas that prepared me for working in New York. I am so thankful for everything Page has done, Page Parkes is a great agency that offers so much!!
