Employee Spotlight: Jay O'Dell

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW JOB AS WOMEN'S DIRECTOR AT PPM's DALLAS OFFICE! HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN THE INDUSTRY?
Yes, I am so excited to be part of the team! I started in bookings in London with a boutique agency who represented the likes of models Sara Stockbridge (Vivienne Westwood model) & L'Wren Scott (now designer), make up artist Dick Page and photographer Juergen Teller. After 4 years in London, I decided to move to San Francisco. I worked as Head Agent at Look Models and then eventually ended up at Ford Models in San Francisco as Director but still continuing to book models, which I love to do.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU KNOWN PAGE AND HOW DID THE OPPORTUNITY ARISE TO WORK FOR HER? I sat down with Page when I recently moved to Dallas and right away we clicked. Page has established herself and her agencies worldwide in this industry, I respect her very much. Its refreshing to be a part of an agency that works well together, has a common understanding of model's career paths, has a great vibe and an amazing owner.

WHAT QUALITIES DO YOU LOOK FOR WHEN SPOTTING NEW FACES? It's not just about beauty and body. You have to be able to sell yourself to the client - it's definitely not just about how you look. I think the days of doing 'one shot' for clients is over. Some of the major clients in the US are turning out 40 to 45 looks per day. You have to able to do that and know what type of looks that client will need. Go to their sites and have an understanding of their clothes, customers and look. Personality is also key, the client wants to have a professional, fun model on set for the day.

WHAT WAS ONE OF THE 1ST THINGS YOU DID WHEN YOU STARTED AT PPM? Ask everyone what sign they are - haha. I am in to astrology and I can tell you every sign of every model I have ever represented, lol. Page & I are both Libras :)

WHAT SETS PAGE PARKES APART FROM OTHER AGENCIES? The models and talent are amazing. The agency recently had their opening party of the new space in Dallas - it was a huge success. The new space is hip and slick. My goals are the same as the agency's goals, the same as the models' goals - to represent the best talent, book great jobs and develop careers. Looking forward to working with all of you!
