Q&A: Catching up with Charles Divins

Charles, from our talent board at Page Parkes in Dallas, was recently on CW's new hot hit show MELROSE PLACE. Before that he had a starring role on Passions. We caught up with him briefly via email to get the 411 on his prime time shoot...

HOW DID YOU GET YOUR START?
I was born and raised in Dallas and that is also where I got my start in the business. A scout from Page Parkes discovered me while I was working in the mall at the tender age of 17. From there I traveled the world trying to put together a career. I ended up settling in New York and that's when I started working in front of the moving camera. It started with commercials and short films. Then in 2002 I got my first big break. I landed a contract role on NBC's daytime show Passions which I relocated to LA for and that’s where I’m based now.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE MELROSE PLACE?
I spent five years on Passions (NBC), a season on Half & Half (CW), guest stared on My Boys (TBS) and have done a few short films.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE FILMING MELROSE PLACE?
There is so much dirt ... Just kidding! The cast and crew where all very seasoned and new exactly what they were doing. That being said there was a real excitement and nervousness about being a new show and a remake of one that’s such a big part of pop culture.

HOW DO YOU BALANCE ACTING AND MODELING?
There is really nothing more than scheduling that needs to be balanced. Modeling is a nice compliment to the down time between jobs and auditions. The life of an actor as well as a model is very flexible.

WHAT'S NEXT ON YOUR PLATE?
As much as you can plan anything in this business! My plans are to remain in LA and seek out work with the people that inspire me.
